The Athens Acropolis sightseeing tour starts at the ACROPOLIS hill and the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the PROPYLAEA, the TEMPLE of ATHENA NIKE, the ERECHTHEION and finally, "the harmony between matter and spirit", the monument that "puts order in the mind", the PARTHENON and then the New Acropolis Museum. Afterwards, we will drive to the PANATHENAIC STADIUM (where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896), the Temple of OLYMPIAN ZEUS and HADRIAN'S ARCH. Driving down Herod Atticus Str., you will see the Evzones in their picturesque uniform and the PRESIDENTIAL PALACE (ex. King Palace) The tour will give you the opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. You will be able to see the city centre, CONSTITUTION SQUARE (Syntagma), the HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT, the MEMORIAL to the UNKNOWN SOLDIER and the NATIONAL LIBRARY. Afterwards, we will drive to the National Archaeological Museum (which is said to be the Best in the world) through modern Athens and then we drive to the NEW SYNAGOGUE, Beth Shalom, a Sephardic synagogue built in 1935 and renovated in the 70s. This is the one that is used today. Admire the exterior of white marble with neoclassical elements after we visit the JEWISH MUSEUM. Then we will drive to the Old Agora, Flea Market, PLAKA or Hermou Str. for a drink, traditional Greek food (Tavern) or wonderful shopping. History of the Jewish Museum in Athens Greece

The idea of building a Jewish Museum of Athens Greece was first conceived in the 1970s by members of the Jewish Community of Athens, who offered every kind of assistance towards the realisation of this dream. The Museum was first established in 1977 and housed in a small room next to the citys synagogue. It housed objects salvaged from WW II, whether artefacts, documents and manuscripts of the 19th and 20th centuries, or the jewellery of the Jews of Thrace that had been seized by the Bulgarians in 1943. The latter had been returned to the Greek government after the abdication of the Bulgarian king and the establishment of a communist regime in the country.
The following years saw a thorough and careful collection of material from all the communities of Greece, under the inspired guidance of Nikos Stavroulakis, director of the Museum until 1993. The collection expanded with rare books and publications, textiles, jewellery, domestic and religious artifacts, thanks to the interest of several individuals.
The Museum soon began to attract the attention of many visitors, researchers and donors. In 1981, the Association of American Friends was founded, followed, a little later, by the Association of Friends of the Jewish Museum of Greece, with members of the Jewish Communities of Athens and Thessaloniki.
