Athens to Delphi Tour: Arachova and the Sanctuary of Apollo

Here’s how a typical private Delphi day trip from Athens unfolds. Because the tour is private, you can change the pace, add stops or spend more time wherever you like.

Morning: pickup in Athens
Your English-speaking driver meets you at your hotel or apartment in Athens, and you set off north in a comfortable Mercedes.

On the road: Thebes, Levadia and Distomo
The drive to Delphi takes about 2.5 hours on the national road, through the plains of Boeotia and past the towns of Thebes, home of the myth of Oedipus, Levadia and Distomo. As the road climbs into the mountains, the scenery changes to pine forests, rocky peaks and green valleys.

Coffee stop: Arachova
We stop in Arachova, a lively mountain village on the slopes of Mount Parnassos. Stretch your legs, enjoy a Greek coffee and browse the shops for local cheese, honey and handwoven rugs.

Late morning: the Sanctuary of Apollo
Just a few minutes later, you arrive at Delphi. You have time to explore the archaeological site at your own pace: the Sacred Way, the Treasury of the Athenians, the Temple of Apollo, the ancient theatre and the stadium at the top of the hill.

Midday: the Delphi Museum
Next door, the Delphi Museum holds the treasures found at the site, including the famous bronze Charioteer and the omphalos, the stone that marked the navel of the world.

Lunch: the village of Delphi
Enjoy lunch at a traditional taverna in the modern village of Delphi, with views over the olive groves down to the Gulf of Corinth.

Afternoon: return to Athens
We drive you back to your hotel in Athens in the late afternoon, about 9–10 hours after pickup.

Vehicles: All our tours use modern Mercedes vehicles (sedan, minivan or minibus), licensed by the Greek National Tourism Organization, smoke-free and fully air-conditioned.

Included: Private vehicle with an English-speaking driver, fuel, tolls, parking fees and baggage.

Not included: Meals and drinks, entrance fees, licensed guides (optional) and gratuities.

Prices: All prices are per car, not per person. The tour is private: only your group travels in the vehicle.

Pickup: Your driver waits up to 60 minutes after the agreed pickup time. After that, the booking is treated as a no-show.

Surcharges:
- 25% surcharge for tours that start or end at Athens airport (except our airport layover tours). The airport is 45–60 minutes from Athens and Piraeus.
- 20% surcharge for services between 23:30 and 06:30.
Name list: After we confirm your booking, please send us the full names of everyone in your group.

Licensed guides: By law, drivers cannot guide inside archaeological sites or museums; only guides licensed by the Ministry of Culture can. You can add a licensed guide on request for an extra fee, or arrange one yourself. If your guide travels with you for the whole tour, they need their own seat, so please book the next vehicle size up (for example, 3 guests book for 4). A full-day guide works up to 8.5 hours, and a half-day guide up to 5 hours.

Luggage:
- Sedan (1–3 people): up to 3 suitcases of max. 63.5 × 45 × 28 cm, or 2 larger suitcases.
- Minivan or minibus: one suitcase of that size per person, plus one small carry-on (up to 3 kg) per person.
- Please tell us your exact luggage when you book.
