2nd Day Tour Itinerary: Meteora to Athens
Embark on an early morning exploration of the awe-inspiring Meteora Monasteries, the second most significant complex in Europe after the Holy Mountain (Athos). Dating back to the 11th century A.D., these sanctuaries provided a haven for monks and nuns throughout the centuries. While not all monasteries are open daily, you’ll be timely informed about visitable ones. Highlights include the Holy Monastery of Great Meteoron, the largest, and the Holy Monastery of Varlaam, the second largest. Depending on time, we’ll visit 2-3 monasteries. Discover the easily accessible Holy Monastery of St. Stephen and the challenging Monastery of Holy Trinity, along with the Holy Monastery of St. Nicholas Anapausas and the Holy Monastery of Rousanou dedicated to The Transfiguration and Saint Barbara. Wrap up your day with a visit to a typical Greek tavern in Kalampaka village. On the return journey to Athens, make a poignant stop at Thermopylae, the historic site of the battle between King Leonidas and the Persians. An unforgettable experience awaits on this captivating journey from Meteora to Athens.
